Welcome to a type 1, insulin dependent diabetic, trying to make a huggable home that doesn't include an overabundance of sugar. My latest delicious taboo has been carefully crafted to tempt. Sunbeam Texas Toast. It's a crime that showcased on my table two nights past. You know it was one of those suppers that needed bread and butter as a side. I took to the table my
yummy whole wheat low-carb thinly sliced bread (5g per slice) along with a loaf of big white fluffy Texas Toast recently purchased by mi madre for the rest of the household. So far so good, not having a problem with it at all. The concern comes when I open the Texas Toast to butter up a slice for my husband. Literally I feel the mouth watering moistness in this bread as I drag it from it's plastic wrapping. Instantly as if Saphira the dragon had blown a stream of fire on my fingers, I drop it on my plate. I then refuse to touch this devil-of-a-thing again. Instead I reach for the bag, whipping it around to the read (almost yell) out the disgusting amount of carbohydrates "18 grams per slice"!
As much as I endeavor to negotiate with myself the value of abstaining from ridiculous amounts of sugar; I was weakened by the feel of that one piece of bread. Thankfully my thin slice of whole wheat was really fresh and really good.
