Author - John Steinbeck

You either Love him or Hate him. I Love him and you should too. He is a expert writer from humble beginnings.

His writing hits the perfect stride for my reading pleasure. I don't read authors that are really wordy, describing everything in so much detail that getting through their descriptions put you to sleep, well they make me shut the book and pass it on. I say this because Steinbeck toes this line with complete mastery.

His novels range from short, The Red Pony, Of Mice and Men, to extremely long The Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden. There is something so beautiful about the way he can take a moment and episode from a life and tell about it so eloquently that it becomes a novel.

I will read about topics that I normally don't pick up, just because I know the type of story that he will tell. The Moon is Down brilliantly depicts his ability to tell a story about a topic that a 40 year old woman in the Midwest in today's day and age can not relate to, except that when he tells it, I can..

During a trip to the library when I was about twelve years old, I asked the librarian for a suggestion, The Grapes of Wrath is what she handed me. He became my classic favorite. Over time I read Of Mice and Men, Cannery Row, and Sweet Thursday, among others.Reading him made me not so frightened or overwhelmed when I was required to read Dickens and Melville. I suggest getting your children to read him early too. I now know what I am going to have my son do, woo hoo this will be a fun discussion. LOL
