Bruce Willis does what he is so good at, he acts like the part of the Average Joe as security guard, David Dunne. He could be any of us. He had a promising career as a football player, chose love instead, wait I don't know anyone who would have faked an injury in college football just to be with a girl after the first date. Just like I don't know anyone who wouldn't have clued in to the fact that they were "unbreakable" well before their early 40's. Not a scratch, cut, scrape, bruise, broken bone, none of it until suddenly there's a train wreck and you're the soul survivor with not a hair harmed on your head and even then it took a creepy note on a windshield to clue you in.
David's wife and son are secondary characters that are developed as well. David and his wife's marriage is on the rocks. The reason he was even in an accident was that he was going on an interview to move away from them. Although they still live in the same house, David and his wife no longer share a bed. We also find out that she doesn't like football, she feels that it is the opposite of her job which is a rehabilitation therapist. The son we learn idolizes his father. So much so that he pulls a gun on him to prove that he has super powers and can withstand a gunshot. Extreme much?!?
Okay you have to assume that Willis' character was just that dumb and once you do that you can move on to enjoy the film. Samuel L. Jackson is AMAZING too. The movie makes you feel compassion and sympathy towards this character, Mr. Glass. His haircut is cool, his maniacal need to make David see his way of thinking makes the viewer a part of his story too. I won't spoil the ending for you, for me it was brilliant. It combined everything that the movie had been building to, without any dramatic special effects or unnecessary sex scenes. And then it took you by the hand and swung you around in a gigantic circle revealing its all important secret.
I loved it, the kiddies can totally watch it. I definitely recommend this movie.
