Sugar-Free Dreamsicle

photo @
On my way to pick up two double cheeseburgers for my husband and a small M&M Blizzard for my
son and a Orange Julius for me, I thought to myself 'do I really want to pay almost $4 for a single Orange Julius?' and my response was 'NO, no I don't, I am a cheapskate and I do not want to splurge on one simple drink'. I am aghast at how much Dairy Queen charges for their treats these days. When I was sixteen, 20+ years ago, they cost a buck. We rarely eat there anymore with a growing son it is rare that we get out of the drive-thru for under $28. That can be a lot of groceries. I asked myself what I really wanted as a treat and how could I make that happen for a lot less money. It was the orange and the cold that I had my cravings going wild. I drove to the nearest grocery store, parked my old beater of a jeep, and marched my booty inside. I picked up a 12 pack of store brand diet orange pop and gladly paid the $2.79 + tax. Money saved is money earned. I had just earned at least a dollar and, AND I had 12 drinks instead of just one! When I got home with their treats and mine, I handed over their sacks and headed straight for the freezer. At Ruler Foods, a discount foods store in town, I had recently purchased a tub of sugar-free vanilla ice cream for under three dollars. In these nice big read plastic cups I scooped a huge dollop of the ice cream, slowly poured on a can of soda, stuck in a straw, one of the nice big fat ones that Starbucks has, and slurped my way to bliss. As a diabetic I treasure any and all treats that I can find to satisfy my needs for sweets.
