Diabetes & Milkshakes

Finding a yummy sugar-free dessert is just about impossible unless you make it yourself.

I love sweets , always have, always will. One of my favorite treats is a shake or malt. One of my all time favorite fast food takeout meals is Dairy Queen breaded and fried tenderloin sandwich with lettuce tomato and onion, a side order of onion rings, and a large chocolate malt. Heaven. I can only indulge in this fantasy when my sugar is dropping and needs a good kick in the butt to settle it down

which rarely happens. The thing that I miss most about this meal is the chocolate shake.

Smoothies have a way of calling out to me as well. Take a peek at the carbohydrate count and you can see why I stay away from these deliciously sounding blends of "healthy" indulgences too. Prepackaged, pre-made foods aren't done for the health conscious, for the diabetic, for the lactose or gluten intolerant. They may for three to six months. maybe even a year you will find a few foods that want to jump on the latest bandwagon; but companies don't have the staying power for those of us with special needs.

There is a product and company that has stayed around, Dannon Light and Fit yogurt. Greek being my latest favorite. Thank you Danon, thank you. Because now I can not only enjoy the yogurt as is, but I can use your product to make a delightful treat; a shake or smoothie.

Almost Sugar Free Shake

Ingredients

1 container of any Dannon light and fit yogurt (9 grams of carbs)
1 cup milk (12 grams of carbs)

Directions

Freeze the yogurt (at least over night). Once frozen place it in the blender, remembering that any hard or frozen items should be placed in the blender first so that they are closer to the blades. Add milk and blend. Pour into a tall glass, add straw, sit back and enjoy.

*Add in fruits if you would like: bananas, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, you name it; when you do don't forget to add the extra carbs into your count

*The banana cream pie yogurt/shake needed a bit of something, I topped it off with a dollop of whip cream and it was perfect.
