Many things gear up in March around our home. Springtime
(it's about time), my son's birthday (he's growing up way too fast), and March
Madness! Behold the time of year that gives maniacs like the inhabitants of our
home a reason to root for the #1 teams, the middle of the road teams, and of
course the under dogs.
The week begins with filling out brackets for the men. I am
still not sure how they can judge teams that I know good and well they haven't
been watching at all this year. As I reflect on that statement, I wonder that
maybe I am the real maniac because i watch some of the most obscure seeming
college basketball games just to see how they're performing in case they may it
to the big tournament. And the guys don't fill out only one bracket, they painstakingly
fill in ones for the local daily newspaper, the Sunday paper, work ones, online
ones, and one for keeping on the coffee table. The brackets for me are simply a
chance to poke fun when their hard and true performers fall by the wayside.
March Madness for this female is a time to become a fan of
so much more than our closest university. Inevitably I spot a young player that
captures my interest and thus become a huge fan of his team too. I like knowing
what his career path in sports have been up to this point, I can't wait for him
to be interviewed, I watch his defense way more that his offense because I've
learned the best offense is a good defense (my son despises me saying that). I
am all about defense, rebounds, and not letting a shooter get inside the paint.
On offense my favorite players seem to lead in assists. I want a player to know
the court and his teammates so well that he knows when one of his men are going
to be open for the shot.
I need the sound of shoes squeaking on the floor, the
referee's whistle, and the shot clock buzzer. I guess what I am trying to say
is I need me some March Madness Baby!
