Garden - Moving Plants

sedum / live forever
Lucky for us our home sits on a very big lot in town. Actually it is a combined four lots. Recently one of my family members got a divorce and needed to buy a place to live. We gave them our end lot to have a modular home moved on to it which for me meant the loss of some of my plants. Or not. Since she wasn't in need of them and really didn't want them where they were and intended to spray kill weed killer on them I came to their, the plants, rescue.

As my son and I worked he said to me, "didn't we just put some of these here last year", "yes son, yes we did." Oh well. We dug and potted eight shrubs which were mostly lilac and holly bushes. Those went into pots for a day. The next day I planted them at the back of the three lots that we still own. My goal with them is to make a natural fence. We still plan on putting up a new actual fence either page wire or chain link, but I want the bushes to enclose us in green splendor to have the feeling of being in my own not so little oasis.

Next came the sedum or live forever whichever name you go by, myself I call it sedum. Once upon a time, fifteen plus years ago I started out with one start, a start means one small plant. As time has passed and many divisions and replanting later, I have a lot of the stuff. If we go back to the concept of a "start", I would guess that I have well over a hundred. Of course that's not how I plant them now. I plant what would really be at least five "starts" in one hole. So we dug most of those, we still have a few left to get. My goal with the sedum is to plant them around the bases of the shrubs. First because they like shade, second to cut down on maintenace around the shrubs.

bugloss
I could repeat the last paragraph for the Royal Standard Hostas that we dug as well. Literally. I have
tons of them, they like shade, and we had just replanted them last year. I also have two more shade loving plants; various lillies and bugloss.  Neither have multiplied nearly as fast as the other two, but I still have plenty. My wish is that say I have 20+ bushes across the back of the property and around each shrub I plant five starts of one plant. Then the next one has another one of these plants. Changing every other one. If that makes sense.... It's going to take some serious digging to get this on track, but I think with the help of my handy dandy son we will have a beautiful border.
